Colophon
Anatory is a place that does not exist.
The name is my friend's, invented in passing back in 2010 while the two of us were playing Minecraft. It immediately needed to be somewhere, and we spent days on the search for it.
We knew exactly what we were looking for, which was the problem. A cliff facing west, high enough to see a long way. A river running through the trees below. All of it angled so that the setting sun would land on the whole view at once.
We found a lot of nearly. Good cliffs with no river. Rivers in flat country. One genuinely excellent overlook that faced stubbornly north. Every time, one of us would say it was close, and the other would say it was not Anatory, and we would keep going.
We never found it. Our standards were far too high, which in hindsight was most of the fun. It is a decent thing to name a software company after: the place you did not settle for.
The palette
The colors on this site are that view, which is why they are not the usual technology blue.

Evergreen
The treescape below the cliff. It carries every word of body text on the site, and the whole page in dark mode.

Cedar
The bark of the cedars in the last of the light. Used sparingly, for rules, marks and links.

River blue
The water running through the trees. It is the soft wash behind the top of every page, rather than anything you read directly.

Bone
The sky gone pale by evening. In light mode it is the page itself, the field everything else sits on.
The three short strokes under each page heading are the same three things, in the same order: cedar, river, treeline. The mark in the corner is an A and a fir tree, depending on how you look at it.
