PyPad privacy policy, ad-supported edition
The short version: the ad-supported edition is the same app as the paid edition of PyPad, kept free by occasional advertisements. The advertising library that shows them (the Google Mobile Ads SDK, made by Google) needs the internet and, while an ad is being fetched or shown, sends Google some information about your device and how the ads perform. That is the only reason the app can reach the internet. Anatory asks for nothing else, never sees your code, and never collects your advertising ID. If you would rather have no ads and no internet at all, the paid edition of PyPad is that exact app.
1. What the app stores on your device
Everything you make stays on your device: your projects and files, the snapshot history you create with "Commit", your settings, your progress in the lessons, and a local record of crashes (a short technical note, never sent anywhere unless you export it yourself from the About screen). Android's automatic backup may include the app's files in your Google account backup if you have that feature turned on in Android; that is a feature of your device, not of the app.
2. What the advertising library collects
To show ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and sends to Google:
- Your IP address, which Google may use to estimate your general location (country or city level), and which every internet connection reveals.
- Interactions with ads (that an ad was shown, whether it was tapped, how long a video ad played) and app activity the library uses for that purpose (such as when the app was launched).
- Diagnostic information about the library itself (how long it took to start, whether it crashed).
- Device identifiers: an "app set" identifier that Google uses to prevent fraud and to cap how often an ad repeats. The Android advertising ID is not collected: the app removes the permission the library would otherwise use for it.
Google uses this data for advertising, for measuring ad performance, and for fraud prevention. All of it is encrypted in transit. Anatory has configured the ads to be non-personalized for everyone, with child-appropriate ad-serving protections and a content rating no higher than "G" (general audiences). Ads are therefore chosen by context, not by a profile of you. Anatory Software LLC never receives any of the data listed above; it only sees aggregate reports of how many ads were shown.
3. Your choices
- Consent. Where the law or Google's policies require it (for example in Switzerland), the app asks for your consent before showing any ad. If you decline, the app shows no ads and works exactly the same. You can change your choice at any time from Settings, then Privacy options (shown when it applies to you).
- No ads at all. The paid edition of PyPad has no advertising library and no internet permission. It is linked from Settings, then Get PyPad without ads.
- Advertising ID. Not used by this app, so there is nothing to reset for it here; Android's own settings still let you reset or delete your advertising ID for other apps.
4. Children
The app is published for users aged 13 and over. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and its ads are served with the child-appropriate protections described above.
5. Permissions
The app asks Android for:
- Internet access and network state (
INTERNET,ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): used only by the advertising library. Your Python scripts cannot use the network: the app blocks it, in this edition and in the paid one alike. - Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, optional): one silent notification that shows which script is running, with a Stop button. Nothing else, ever. - Keep the device awake / run a foreground service
(
WAKE_LOCK,FOREGROUND_SERVICE): required by a background-work library the advertising library depends on. The app itself never runs a foreground service.
No location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage or phone permissions.
6. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at the same address with a new effective date, and the app's About screen always links to the current version.
